Orange Maple Cranberry Sauce

Fresh apple and orange maple cranberry sauce make for a colourful and wholesome complement to your holiday spread.  Simple, quick, and ready in advance. Vegan, gluten-free, maple-sweetened, and free of refined sugar!

Ingredients

  • 12 oz. fresh cranberries
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tbsp. orange zest
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Rinse the cranberries and pick out any stems or bruised berries.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, maple syrup, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and salt.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  4. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries have popped and the sauce has thickened.
  5. Remove the cinnamon stick and let the sauce cool to room temperature.
  6. Transfer the sauce to a serving dish and refrigerate until ready to serve.
