Ingredients
- 2 large onions, thinly sliced
- 4-6 slices of vegan bacon or regular bacon, chopped
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon vegan butter (or regular butter)
- 1 cup vegan cream cheese (or regular cream cheese)
- 1/2 cup vegan mayonnaise (or regular mayonnaise)
- 1/2 cup vegan sour cream (or regular sour cream)
- 1 cup shredded vegan mozzarella cheese (or regular mozzarella cheese)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped chives or green onions for garnish
- Crackers, chips, or sliced baguette (for serving)
Instructions
Caramelize the Onions
- In a large skillet, heat the olive oil and vegan butter over medium-low heat.
- Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are golden brown and caramelized. This process may take around 20-30 minutes. Add a pinch of salt to help the onions release moisture and caramelize properly.
- Once caramelized, remove the onions from the skillet and set them aside.
Cook the Bacon
In the same skillet, cook the chopped vegan bacon or regular bacon until crispy. Once cooked, remove the bacon from the skillet and drain excess grease on a paper towel.
Prepare the Dip
In a mixing bowl, combine the vegan cream cheese, vegan mayonnaise, vegan sour cream, shredded vegan mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, and a pinch of black pepper. Mix until well combined.
Assemble and Bake
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Stir the caramelized onions and cooked bacon into the cream cheese mixture.
- Transfer the mixture to an oven-safe baking dish.
Bake the Dip
Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the dip is hot and bubbly.
Garnish and Serve
- Once the dip is done baking, remove it from the oven and garnish with chopped chives or green onions.
- Serve the warm dip with crackers, chips, or sliced baguette.
