Ingredients
- 2 cups vital wheat gluten
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 1/4 cups vegetable broth
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the vital wheat gluten, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and black pepper.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable broth, soy sauce, tomato paste, and olive oil.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix well to form a dough.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until it becomes elastic.
- Shape the dough into a loaf and wrap it tightly in aluminum foil, twisting the ends.
- Place the wrapped seitan roast in the slow cooker.
- Add enough water to the slow cooker to cover the roast partially.
- Cook on low heat for 6-8 hours or until the roast is firm and cooked through.
