The famous savoury flatbread breakfast delicacy known as Manakeesh Zaatar (also known as manaeesh, mana’ish, or manaqish) is popular in Lebanon. In essence, it is a deliciously light handmade dough topped with za’atar.
Ingredients
- 1 pound (450g) of pizza dough, homemade or store-bought
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 3 tablespoons of Za’atar spice blend
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (218°C).
- On a floured surface, roll out the pizza dough into a 1/4 inch (0.6cm) thick rectangle.
- Place the dough onto a baking sheet or pizza stone.
- Drizzle the olive oil over the top of the dough and spread it out evenly.
- Sprinkle the Za’atar spice blend and salt evenly over the top of the olive oil.
- Bake the manakish in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the za’atar is fragrant.
- Slice into triangles and serve warm.
