Fresh apple and orange maple cranberry sauce make for a colourful and wholesome complement to your holiday spread. Simple, quick, and ready in advance. Vegan, gluten-free, maple-sweetened, and free of refined sugar!
Ingredients
- 12 oz. fresh cranberries
- 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/2 cup fresh orange juice
- 1 tbsp. orange zest
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Rinse the cranberries and pick out any stems or bruised berries.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the cranberries, maple syrup, orange juice, orange zest, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the cranberries have popped and the sauce has thickened.
- Remove the cinnamon stick and let the sauce cool to room temperature.
- Transfer the sauce to a serving dish and refrigerate until ready to serve.
