Ingredients
For the donuts
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/4 cup apple cider
- 1/4 cup non-dairy milk (e.g., almond, soy, oat)
- 2 tbsp melted coconut oil or vegetable oil
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the cinnamon sugar coating
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2-3 tbsp melted vegan butter
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix together the applesauce, apple cider, non-dairy milk, melted coconut oil or vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Spoon the batter into a piping bag or a plastic storage bag with the corner cut off. Pipe the batter into the greased donut pan, filling each cavity about 2/3 full.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 12-15 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into a donut comes out clean.
- While the donuts are baking, prepare the cinnamon sugar coating. In a bowl, mix together the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon.
- Once the donuts are done baking, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes. Then, carefully remove them from the pan.
